I-295 crash kills 19 and 21 year old pushing disabled car off highway

Jacksonville, FL. — Florida Highway Patrol reported two people died in a car crash that shutdown the southbound lanes of I-295 at Wilson Boulevard for about 5 hours Sunday morning.

According to FHP’s report, the passenger of a disabled vehicle, a 19-year-old female, and a good Samaritan, a 21-year-old male, were pushing a disabled car off the highway when a second car crashed into and killed them.

FHP said the driver of the first car, a 22-year-old male, and second car, a 43-year-old male, suffered minor injuries.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes starting at Normandy Blvd. around 2AM Sunday.

Action News Jax’s Robert Grant was on scene when the highway was re-opened just before 7AM.

Highway Patrol said it’s believed a third vehicle is involved, but the investigation continues.
