Wounded Warrior Project names interim COO

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Wounded Warrior Project Board of Directors has appointed Major General Charlie Fletcher as interim chief operating officer for the charity.

Fletcher's appointment comes after former COO Al Giordano and former CEO Steven Nardizzi were fired earlier this month after allegations of overspending on lavish parties and conferences.

Fletcher is on the advisory council for WWP and he will begin to serve as interim COO April 11.

According to WWP, Fletcher is also a logistics senior mentor to NATO and has more than 30 years of experience in military aviation.

Fletcher's military career included eight command tours and three combat tours.

WWP founder John Melia has told Action News Jax that he is hoping to rejoin the organization as CEO but the charity said so far, they have not announced any other executive appointments at this time.

Melia said he will be meeting with the board of directors in New York on Monday.
