Former Florida Gator and ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in prison, according to officials.
Corrections officers found Hernandez hanging in his cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley around 3:05 a.m. Wednesday.
He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.
Hernandez attached a bed sheet to a window in a single cell in a general population housing unit.
He tried to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items, officials said.
Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison for a 2013 murder and was recently on trial for a double murder in Boston.
He was found not guilty of first-degree murder but was sentenced to four to five years in prison for unlawful possession of a gun.
