Atlantic Beach man wins $2,000,000 on scratch off days before his birthday

An Atlantic Beach man won $2,000,000 off a $10 scratch off ticket just days before his birthday.

Melvin Thomas, 47, bought his winning ticket at the Mayport Food Store in Atlantic Beach.

He'll celebrate his birthday this weekend.

The $10 ticket was part of the $2,000,000 GOLD RUSH lottery game that has prizes that range from $10 to eight top prizes of $2,000,000.

Thomas chose a one-time, lump-sum payment of $1,565,319.

The store received a $4,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.
