Business owner plans event to raise money for Clay County fire lieutenant run over at bar

A Clay County fire lieutenant continues to recover at a local hospital after he was run over outside a bar.

Deputies say John Taylor got into an argument with two men and a Jacksonville firefighter outside of Dalton's Sports Grill earlier this month.

The men ran him over in a truck.

The owner of Dalton's is a close friend of Taylor and his family. He said he wants to help them out with rising medical costs.

“We decided immediately we needed to do a benefit and raise some money,” Skylar Davis said.

The fundraiser will be held this Saturday at Dalton’s Sports Grill.

“We’ll have door prizes, 50/50 raffles, silent auctions, donations and live music all day long,” Davis said.

Davis says there will also be T-shirts and hats that say “John strong” for sale.

Taylor’s the lead singer of a band called JTB. His band's merchandise will also be sold at the event.

All of the money collected will be given to the family.

“We need to pull together and show him some love and support,” Davis said.

Davis says his friend has a long way to go but he has faith that he’ll pull through.

“He’s tough, he isn’t going to give up,” Davis said.

We spoke with Taylor’s wife on the phone. She said this is a rough time for her family.

The benefit at Dalton’s Saturday will be from noon until close.
