JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are investigating what caused a driver to crash into a dealership in Jacksonville on Sunday.
It happened off Beach Boulevard near Hogan Road.
Tire tracks on the side of Beach Boulevard appear to show where the car left the roadway. It barreled into several cars at Empire Auto Sales, causing the car to flip onto its roof.
“Apparently it happened at 5 o’clock in the morning,” a woman told Action News Jax.
She didn’t want to show her face on camera but said she and her fiance were passing the lot around 7 a.m. when they saw the wreckage.
“My fiance walked up, noticed there was somebody in the driver’s side,” she said. “He was very still. He checked his pulse. There was a pulse. He responded a little bit and we called 911 immediately.”
Firefighters told Action News Jax they freed someone from the car. We counted at least five other cars at the lot that were damaged.
It appeared the driver hit one car head on. The impact was so severe it spun nearly 180 degrees.
As JSO investigates what caused the crash, the couple told Action News Jax they feel for the business owner and family of the man hurt.
“I just immediately started praying. That’s all we could do. And I hope he pulls through 100 percent,” she said.
