JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Carnival cruise ship, Elation, ported back in Jacksonville Monday morning following a power outage.
The ship was returning to port in Jacksonville.
Passengers told Action News Jax that the ship lost power about three or four times.
Staff members announced the ship was having electrical issues, passengers said.
A representative for the company sent a statement:
"The cruise ship Carnival Elation experienced a short power outage starting at around 1:45 a.m. this morning. The ship's technicians promptly restored power and the ship is expected to arrive at its homeport of Jacksonville at approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, slightly behind schedule."
Passengers also said there was a medical emergency on the ship.
"I ran around there, but it was across the hall, from my cousins and her husband died on the ship. It was a lot of screaming on the ship, and stuff like that," said passenger Myra Crewnshaw. "They end up calming her down, and blocked the door, so we couldn’t see in there."
A representative with the cruise ship said, "Earlier in the voyage, while the ship was in the Bahamas, a guest passed away. All indications suggest the death appears to have been of natural causes."
