COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — An inmate at the Columbia County Detention Facility has died as a result of a medical issue, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
There is no foul play suspected and the identity of the inmate has not been released.
“We are deeply saddened by this as we always try to provide the best care we can for our inmates. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the inmate’s family,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation into the death as is standard procedure.
