Authorities tell Action News Jax they have found the body of a 14-year-old boy who drowned in the St. Marys River.
Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson said 14-year-old Jacoby Clayton jumped off a swing into the river at Shoals Park in Glen St. Mary and didn't resurface.
He was out with a group of about four friends; no adults were with the group, authorities said.
Jacoby's body was found after about an hour of searching by the Macclenny Fire Rescue and the Baker County Sheriff's Office.
More than 50 family members and friends were waiting at the end of the road in the park when Dobson pulled up to tell them the sad news. Action News Jax's Danielle Avitable heard screams and cries when the group found out Jacoby wasn't found alive.
Jacoby's family told Sheriff Dobson that he wasn't the strongest swimmer. His body is being transported to the medical examiner in Gainesville.
Baker County Schools Superintendent Sherrie Raulerson said the middle schooler was an all-around great kid.
"Very well-liked by his friends and his teachers and he's going to be greatly missed," Raulerson said.
