A Fleming Island High School athlete is in critical condition after he passed out at school on Tuesday, according to officials.
Ben Johnson's family said he remains in critical condition Wednesday after he passed out in the weight room at school Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson plays football and baseball for Fleming Island High School.
His parents sent Action News Jax a statement Wednesday:
"The Johnson family is humbled by all of the prayers, love and support from the Fleming Island Community. Ben remains in critical condition, and continued prayer is requested for Ben and our family."
Classmates and coaches posted their condolences on social media.
Several area high school Twitter accounts shared thoughts and prayers for the teen's family.

Clay County Schools released the following statement:
"A Fleming Island High School student passed out today while he was working out in the weight room during school hours. EMS was called immediately and he was transported to a nearby hospital. He was transferred to Wolfson Children's Hospital where he is in critical condition. We are not releasing the student's name at this time, but he is a sophomore who plays football and baseball."
The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it did not respond to the school and referred all questions to the school district.
