Family wants answers after their dog was shot and killed in their yard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman says someone shot her dog while he was inside her carport.

Bailey’s owners want to find the person responsible.

Police did find a shell casing that could help their case, but at this point that’s their only lead. The police report said there were no witnesses to the shooting that’s left a young girl and her family heartbroken.

Bailey was Zorica Robinson’s best friend.

“He’d jump on you and kiss you and love you,” Robinson said.

For three years, Bailey was right there by Robinson’s side.

“And if I cried or if I was happy he would just lick my face,” Robinson said.

But Thursday night, Robinson lost her friend.

“I opened the door and he was just lying there,” Robinson said.

It was around 11:30 p.m. when Robinson was in her home and she was actually getting ready to go play with Bailey. But then she heard several gunshots, so she rushed outside. When she got outside, she went to Bailey’s room and that’s when she saw that her dog had been shot.

“Somebody just … walked up to my house and shot him,” Robinson said.

The police report for the shooting says a rifle shell casing was found in the driveway. The family said Bailey wasn't a problem in the neighborhood and they never got any complaints about him.

“This is my yard. For someone to come in and to kill him … that’s cruel,” said Zenia Hightower, Robinson’s mom.

The family now just wants answers.

“God knows and saw who did it,” Hightower said.

Robinson wants just one more kiss from Bailey.

“He was more than a dog. He was a true definition of a man’s best friend,” Robinson said.

Robinson and her family ask that if anyone saw or heard anything to please let them know. They’re planning on having Bailey cremated and remembered in a memorial vase.
