JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local firefighter who is known for spending his spare time fixing up veterans' graves at a Jacksonville Beach cemetery helped clean a Mayport fishing spot on Sunday.
Brian Bausch, a St. Johns County firefighter, made headlines in March for one of his hobbies, cleaning the graves of veterans at Lee Kirkland Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach.
Bausch said he saw an Action News Jax news report on trash piling up at Mayport and decided to spend his Sunday cleaning it.
“I saw the story and figured I'd take a break from my other deeds,” Bausch said.
He said he doesn’t expect anyone to help him clean but if others join, he counts it as a blessing.
“There were many people out there drinking, fishing,” Bausch said. “All watching me work. It's cool though, I saw a wrong and went to fix it.”
Bausch said to keep the reports on areas in need of cleaning coming, and he'll direct his efforts to them.
