State Attorney's Office reviewing case of former JSO officer allegedly hitting handcuffed woman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The case of a former Jacksonville sheriff’s officer accused of beating a woman during an arrest is still being reviewed by the State Attorney's Office.

Akinyemi Borisade was arrested for allegedly hitting a handcuffed woman. Two videos appear to show Borisade beating a handcuffed woman.

The woman, Mayra Martinez, is handcuffed and reportedly drunk. The arrest report said she bit and kicked Borisade while she was resisting arrest, before she was processed into jail. Martinez said the video is embarrassing and something she hopes to put behind her.

The attorney for Borisade said there is more to this story. We don’t know if Borisade will face any charges at all until the state makes a decision.

Attorney Tom Fallis showed up to court to set a possible arraignment date for his client.

Fallis didn’t want give a comment on camera, but he told Action News Jax reporter Letisha Bereola he feels strongly there is more to the story and he will talk about it when, “the time is right.”

Borisade was hired in March 2015 and no longer works with the Sheriff's Office. If he’s charged, the arraignment will be June 7.
