The tight-knit community of Green Cove Springs is mourning the loss of the three people killed Tuesday morning.
One victim ran a popular race track in the area. Friends remember Buddy Short as a great friend who loved working at the Green Cove Dragway.
Police say Murray Lancaster kidnapped and murdered Short and his daughter Valorie, then killed his ex-wife, Erica Green.
Murray was recently arrested after a domestic violence case involving Valorie, who was his ex-girlfriend.
Witnesses say Lancaster went to the race track to talk to Buddy recently after a recent domestic violence incident involving Valorie.
“He had come out to apologize and he said he loved his daughter. He said ‘You don't love her, you beat on her,’” a friend Tom Wilson, said.
The track has canceled races for this weekend out of respect for Tuesday’s tragedy, but a special race event is in the works to raise money for the victims' families.
