Hurricane Irma: Insurance claims near $5 billion after the storm

Potential insured losses from Hurricane Irma in Florida now approach $5 billion.

As of Friday, 747,534 claims had been filed, worth an estimated $4.94 billion, according to the Office of Insurance Regulation.

The figures, up from 703,671 claims and $4.57 billion in losses a week earlier, are driven by claims in Miami-Dade, Orange, Broward, Lee, Collier, Polk, Brevard, Duval, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.

Homeowners accounted for 66 percent of the claims.

Nearly 19 percent of the claims had been settled with payments.

Another 13 percent of the claims had been closed without any payment.
