Jacksonville man convicted for cruise ship assault on developmentally challenged teen

A Jacksonville man has been found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse on a developmentally delayed teen on a local cruise ship.

Federal court records show it took the jury just over an hour to convict Brian Holland of the charge. He was arrested in early March for the assault aboard the Jacksonville-based Carnival Elation.

Prosecutors say Holland assaulted the victim while they were in the hot tub on the ship.

He was sitting next to the victim, when he pulled her toward him and touched her inappropriately.

Family of the victim says she is 18 but has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.

Holland is being held in federal custody, pending his sentencing, which will take place Oct. 22.
