A Jacksonville man was killed in a head-on crash that blocked Heckscher Drive for hours on Sunday.
Mangled metal, smashed hoods and broken glass were left behind after the crash on Heckscher Dr. near Heritage River Road around 3:30 a.m.
Florida Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Lark Hodge was driving a Ford Escape westbound on Heckscher Dr. when she lost control and drove into an eastbound lane.
She ran head-on into 46-year-old Derrick Lamar Jones, who was driving a white GMC Yukon. Jones was killed in the crash.
Hodge was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.
Action News Jax was there as troopers collected evidence and documented the scene.
Troopers said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and they’re investigating if Hodge will be criminally charged.
