Jacksonville police: Woman tries to ignite explosive device during traffic stop

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police arrested a woman who they say tried to ignite an explosive device during a traffic stop on Tuesday night.

Officers "stopped a suspicious vehicle" in Grove Park around 11:15 p.m. and asked driver Charlaya Moore to get out of the car, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

She refused "multiple verbal commands" from the officer and began reaching under the seat. The officer tried to pull Moore out of the vehicle as she pulled out an explosive device and tried to ignite it.

Another officer got into the passenger's side of the vehicle and got the explosive device away from Moore.

Moore said she was in the area traveling to her boss' house. In her vehicle, officers found multiple explosive devices as well as many disguises such as wigs and glasses.

Moore is facing charges of possession of a destructive device, aggravated assault on police and resisting police with violence.
