PHOTOS: Overnight fire in Jacksonville apartment causes evacuations
Family members are gathering to remember a Jacksonville mother who died in a house fire on Van Sickle Road.
The woman, who was only identified by her first name, Denay, was found in the back of the home, where Jacksonville firefighters tried to resuscitate her.
The state fire marshal is working to determine the cause, but say it doesn’t look suspicious.
“You couldn’t see anything inside. It was bad,” said Heather Frez, a neighbor. “It was pure red [inside] and just nothing but flames.
“It’s [a] tragedy. A terrible thing. i’ve known her a long time so.”
Firefighters were able to save Denay’s dog, Rebel. The family said they are still looking for her pet cat.
