JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A man who went unconscious after beachgoers pulled him from the waters at Jacksonville Beach on Thursday has died, a firefighter confirmed with Action News Jax.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. near 17th Avenue North.

A son was trying to teach his 63-year-old father how to paddleboard, Jacksonville Beach Police said. The son then saw his dad floating in the water and tried to save him.

The man was unconscious, rescuers said. A witness tweeted that Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue was doing CPR on a surfer who was pulled from the ocean.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
