City investigators are working to find out what caused a massive fire at a car repair shop on Jacksonville’s Southside.
The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m. at Chris’ Automotive Repair and Service on Leon Road, which is just off Beach Boulevard near the flea market and the Salvation Army.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Dept. public information officer Tom Francis said five employees were inside the auto shop when the fire started, and everyone got out safely.
No injuries were reported.
Francis said, when JFRD arrived, employees were using fire extinguishers to try to fight the massive flames on their own.
JFRD tells me employees were using fire extinguishers to try to fight the flames on their own. A witness likened it to throwing deck chairs off the Titanic. I'm live at 5 on CBS47 https://t.co/MjXI0ZPjiH

Francis said he did not know how many cars were damaged by the fire.
Action News Jax crews at the scene said a firefighter brought several towels to the scene. The firefighter told Avitable they needed the towels because hydraulic fluid was getting on people.
