Update: Missing inmate captured after trying to donate blood in Jacksonville

An inmate who fled the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on Thursday was arrested after he tried to donate blood on Jacksonville's Northside.

Police said an employee called police when Gary M. Thigpen, 23, came to a plasma donation center on the Northside.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Thigpen was working as a trustee at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds when he walked off around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

He was serving time for a theft charge.

Police said an alert employee called police and he was arrested at the center.

"The change in hair color did not help hide his identity," JSO said.
