BAKER COUNTY, Fla. — Lonzie Barton was laid to rest Tuesday in Baker County at a private ceremony attended by his mother and father, who are both incarcerated.
The service was held at Turner Cemetery.
For some neighbors, the burial brought back up emotions of what happened to the little boy.
"It's a shame things like that happen in this world," said Barbara, who didn't give her last name.
"When I first saw him, he reminded me of my grandson and it was really heart breaking," said neighbor Bridgette Johnson.
A family friend said he's glad Lonzie is at peace.
"Maybe it can bring closure to the family. Our prayers go out to them," said Don Self.
"If that gave the family closure, but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord ... Lonzie's already there," Barbara said.
Lonzie was reported missing on July 24, 2015. The man convicted in his death, Ruben Ebron, led officials to the body in January.
Lauramore Barton pleaded guilty in January to child neglect and lying to police in her son's death. Ebron pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter.
Lauramore Barton pleaded guilty to multiple drug charges from a case in Baker County that is unrelated to her son's death. Chris Barton pleaded guilty to drug charges and simple battery in jail.
