'Make America white again,' racially charged drawings found at University of North Florida library

Campus police are investigating after a janitor found "Make America White Again" and other offensive language written on a whiteboard in the University of North Florida library.

A janitor was cleaning a study room at the campus library in Jacksonville around 4 a.m. Thursday when she saw the drawings.

A police report said the drawings showed individuals of various ethnicity being told to return to their countries.

"Make America White Again" was written in large letters next to a drawing of a wall showing Mexico on one side and the words "wall" and "Trump" on the other side.

"Back to Mexico alien," "terrorist" and "Back to Africa" were among the things written on the whiteboard.

Library employees said a group of people was in the room until 11 p.m. Wednesday before it was opened to all students.

They did not know who the people inside the room were and there are no video cameras in the area, the police report said.

A janitor who was disturbed by the drawings told Action News Jax he thinks more people should condemn the offensive behavior.

"I don't think that it should be a suppressed issue, I believe it should be known that these type of things are happening in our local college," he said. "Maybe if other students knew of this type of behavior, more would step up in saying that this is not OK and should be addressed."

The drawings were found on the whiteboard on the same day Action News Jax was sent a photo of "colored" and "whites only" signs posted above a water fountain at a Jacksonville high school.

The motivation behind the signs at First Coast High School was not clear, district officials said.

The messages found in Jacksonville were among several racially charged incidents in the country last week.
