Former JSO officer accused of beating handcuffed woman enters plea

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man accused of beating a handcuffed woman entered a plea Wednesday in Duval County Court.

Akinyemi Borisade, a former Jacksonville Sheriff's officer, was not in court.

Borisade's attorney said he pleads not guilty. A pretrial date is scheduled for June 21.

Borisade was arrested for allegedly hitting a handcuffed woman. Two videos appear to show him beating a handcuffed woman.

The arrest report said the woman bit and kicked Borisade while she was resisting arrest, before she was processed into jail.

The claims are still being investigated by the State Attorney's Office. A disposition from the State Attorney's Office said "the totality of the available evidence does not permit a reasonable possibility of conviction for enhanced felony charges against Borisade given the evidence and the law. Indeed, it would likely not survive a motion to dismiss. Accordingly, MM (misdemeanor) battery charges remain."

Borisade was hired in March 2015 and no longer works with the Sheriff's Office.
