Man arrested for leaving child in car at Jacksonville Walmart

A man was arrested after he allegedly left a child in a car at a Jacksonville Walmart on Sunday.

Officers were called to the Walmart on Philips Highway after several people noticed a small child sitting in the rear seat of a car alone.

An officer with Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said he found the child sleeping in a car seat covered in a blanket. The car was running, the windows were rolled up and a radio was playing loudly, the officer said.

The officer looked at surveillance video of the car and determined a woman left the car and went to the nail salon.

Jacob Erlewine, 27, stood outside the car for a while then walked inside Walmart approximately 12 minutes later.

He bought groceries then stopped by the nail salon to speak with the woman.

He then left the store with his groceries 22 minutes after he walked away from the car, according to a police report.

The woman who was getting her nails done told officers that her boyfriend was waiting in the car with the child.

Erlewine was arrested and charged with child neglect.

The child was left in a car seat while a woman got her nails done and a man went inside to shop at a Jacksonville Walmart, police said:
