JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is accused of burglarizing a Target at the St. Johns Town Center early Thursday morning.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded around 3:15 a.m. to the reported burglary. A Target investigator alerted police to a man who walked out of the back of the business.
A Target employee told JSO that multiple items were damaged throughout the store. The employee also said two suitcases and money were missing.
Video surveillance showed the man damaging multiple cash register drawers and glass panes with a fire extinguisher and a baseball bat, which appeared to belong to the store. The video also showed the suspect walking out of the store with two suitcases from the store.
Officers also saw multiple cash registers damaged and on the floor, multiple glass panes in the electronic section smashed with multiple items missing.
Two officers found the suspect, who was identified as 26-year-old Michael Falvo, in the area matching the description. He was seen wearing a black backpack and pulling two suitcases.
"What were you thinking?" the officers asked Falvo. "I came out of the bathroom and no one was there," he replied, according to police.
A small ax was found in the backpack, according to police.
The items were taken back to the store.
Falvo was taken into custody. Police said he admitted to the burglary, saying that he did it so he could sell the items for marijuana.
Falvo is charged with burglary with damage of more than $1,000 and possession of burglary tools.
