Man connected to double murder on Jacksonville's Southside arrested in Georgia on other charges

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax has confirmed a man connected to a double murder on the Southside has been arrested in Georgia on other charges.

The U.S. Marshals arrested Thomas J. Brown in Georgia last night on an active warrant out of Pennsylvania.

Sources tell us he is the boyfriend of murder victim Amy Hatfield, who is from Pittsburgh. The mother of two was found dead with her uncle in a home at Portside Mobile Home Park on Jacksonville’s Southside last week.

Police in Pennsylvania tell our sister station, WPXI in Pittsburgh, that Brown is being investigated for homicides that happened in Jacksonville but he was arrested on other charges.

We learned of Brown's arrest from Hatfield's aunt. She said police called her last night to let the family know that Brown was arrested in Georgia.

Brown was arrested at a treatment facility in Thomasville, Georgia, on an active warrant. He is now in the Thomas County jail.

Police in Pennsylvania confirm that Brown is being investigated for the homicides that happened in Jacksonville.

He faces burglary charges in Pennsylvania, but the Mount Lebanon Police Chief tells us Brown may be extradited to Jacksonville, because the charges in Jacksonville are more serious.

Police confirm that they have been wanting to talk to Brown after Hatfield and her uncle Robert Massey were found dead.  A neighbor said he saw Brown at the pool last week acting erratically on the phone.

Hatfield’s aunt said police are not releasing a lot of information to their family. We still are working to find out the cause of death. We reached out to the medical examiner’s office and they said that will take 90 days.
