A memorial and fund for a Jacksonville high schooler killed in a crash while driving home from a football game continues to grow.
Derek George, 16, was killed in a single-car crash on RG Skinner Parkway near Baymeadows Road on Thursday morning.
Friends say the sophomore was leaving a football game at Atlantic Coast High School just a half-mile away when he lost control of his car and hit a tree.
A GoFundMe page for George's family said football was a sport he loved passionately.
"Derek added a bright light to so many lives: his friends, his parents and older brother, his extended family, teachers and mentors," the page said. "All had great expectations for this extraordinary young man."
More than $10,000 has been raised for the family in just two days.
One of George's former teachers shared his memories of George and condolences for his friends and family on Facebook.

Scott Schultz said he taught George in the sixth and eighth grades.
"The student was well-liked and respectful - the makings of a guy you were just happy to have around," Schultz said. "There aren't the right words to express the kind of tragedy this is, not only for him, but much more so for his family."
A group of people gathered at the crash site on Sunday. A memorial for George continues to grow.
Funeral services for George are pending, according to an obituary for him.
