Men who shot, killed each other in St. Augustine were friends

Friends of Elroi Ashley and Canyon Molitor said the two knew each other and were friends.

One father told Action News Jax that his son was good friends with Canyon Molitor and was in the parking lot when the 25-year-old was shot and killed.

The entire community is shaken up, especially those who knew both men.

Family, friends speak out after two men fatally shoot each other at St. Augustine store

Jose Rodriguez said he knew both of the men who were shot and killed Saturday morning at King Food Mart in St.Johns County. “I couldn’t believe it and I still can’t believe it,” Rodriguez said.

According to police, Canyon Molitor and Elroi Ashley had been arguing online and decided to meet fact to face. During that confrontation, police said both men pulled out guns and shot one another. Molitor died at the scene and Ashley died later at Flagler Hospital.

Rodriguez told Action News Jax that Ashley was like family. “Great father, awesome person, a clown man who was always joking. He was a great strong man and he was just a good person. I just can’t believe he’s gone,” he said.

Rodriguez is equally as shocked about Molitor, who worked with him at Prohibition Kitchen. “He was a good guy and a nice person. He wasn’t a bad person either. Like what happened is just a sad story,” Rodriguez said.
