GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — A morning crash in Clay County Friday left one man dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said 23-year-old Richard Rooker III of Green Cove Springs, died after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a pickup truck on U.S. 17 at State Road 16.

FHP said it appears the motorcylclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not able to slow down for stopped traffic.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash shut down southbound lanes on U.S. 17, causing delays in the area but has since reopened.
