School districts in Northeast Florida are monitoring Hurricane Matthew but have not announced any public school cancelations.
Nassau, St. Johns, Duval, Bradford and Flagler county school officials said they are keeping a close eye on the storm.
It is expected to have the biggest impact on Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Friday afternoon, when the storm is expected to be 100 to 150 miles off the coast.
Duval County Public Schools said officials are in communication with law enforcement and making sure facilities and transportation departments are ready for any possible disruption of normal school operations.
Nassau County school officials said they are getting situation reports from Nassau County Emergency Operations Center two of three times a day.
That communication will increase as the storm gets closer so that timely decisions about school operations are made, officials said.
Clay County officials said Friday was scheduled for a teacher planning day. Any closure would only impact employees and a decision is expected on Wednesday.
The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind bused students home and will be closed Wednesday through Friday.
