JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people were shot and killed in a shooting in the Baymeadows area that led to a crash on an interstate.

A man was found lying in the road Tuesday night on Baymeadows Road near Baymeadows Way. Another was found in a car shot with life-threatening injuries after a crash on Interstate 95 near J. Turner Butler Boulevard. Both men have since died.

JSO said the two incidents are connected. Police said 35-year-old Ladon Damien Darnell Johnson was found shot in a vehicle on I-95 and 35-year-old Marshawn Joshua Manns was found shot on Baymeadows Road.

A memorial of flowers and candles has grown Wednesday in the area where Manns was found in the roadway.

“I just couldn't believe that it was him and that anybody would want to hurt him,” said Michelle Baxley.

The death of Manns, Baxley’s friend who she calls ‘MJ,’ is still very fresh.

“He was very caring, and if I ever needed anything, he was the one person I always went to,” said Baxley.

Other friends of Manns said they don't understand what happened or why.

"We really don't know all of the story, we heard bits and pieces," said Candy Yates.

JSO said officers are not looking for a suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
