2 shot at Taverna Yamas restaurant in Jacksonville; police investigating

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Officers are searching for a suspect after two people were shot at the Taverna Yamas restaurant near Tinseltown off Southside Boulevard.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at about 12:15 a.m. Monday at the lounge.

Action News Jax's Larry Spruill was outside the lounge when it happened. He said a fight broke out, shots were fired and people were running everywhere.

A witness told Spruill the shooter placed a gun on her shoulder from behind and then fired the gun.

A Taverna Yamas restaurant manager said someone from another club came to the hookah lounge with a gun.

Local artist Young Cash was at the restaurant and said on Facebook that two people got into an argument at another club before the shooting.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man inside the lounge was shot in the upper torso. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment.

A second victim arrived at the hospital while officers were still there. The victim was shot at the Yamas Hookah Lounge, JSO said.

There is no suspect information.

The Yamas manager said in seven years of business, there hasn't been a fight at the restaurant.

He said security guards were manning the door but someone got a gun inside.
