2 hurt in attempted murder-suicide in parking lot on Jacksonville's Southbank

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after two people were shot in an attempted murder-suicide in a parking lot on the Southbank on Thursday evening.

The shooting is domestic in nature and happened just before 6 p.m. in the parking lot near the AvMed building at 1301 Riverplace Boulevard, JSO said. The victim and suspect know each other.

The suspect confronted the victim as she was getting into her car after she left work. The suspect shot the victim with a handgun and turned the gun on himself, police said.

Both the victim and the suspect have life-threatening injuries. JSO said it is working to learn if there was a previous history of domestic violence between the victim and suspect, or if a restraining order was in effect for the suspect.

Police are continuing to interview witnesses and are working to obtain surveillance video from the area.
