A Glynn County woman who said she was kidnaped and forced to withdraw money from an ATM made up the whole story, said the Glynn County Police Department.

Megan Wheat, 30, of St. Simons Island, told police that she was kidnaped at gunpoint by a white male and was forced to drive to a secluded area, where the man attempted to sexually assault her and robbed her of $450.

GCPD said during their investigation they learned Wheat owed a person money for illegal narcotics and when she met with the person to pay $460 toward her "narcotics bill," and the person punched her in the face for not paying the total amount owed.

Wheat then made up the story of the kidnapping, robbery and attempted sexual assault.

She also planted evidence to make her story more believable, police said.

According to the report, Wheat was hoping that her narcotics supplier would be arrested.

"Anytime a crime as heinous as this is reported, the police department investigated it throughout in order to bring those responsible to justice," said Glynn County Police Chief John Powell. "I am relieved to know that this report was a hoax."
