Report: Wawa looking to build several stores in St. Johns County

Wawa, the upscale gas station that also specialzes in selling food, is looking for suitable sites in fast-growing St. Johns County, the JaxDailyRecord.com reported Thursday.

The website said St. Johns County could have up to four stores.

Wawa plans to eventually open 25 to 35 stores in the greater Jacksonville area, said Wawa President and CEO Chris Gheysens.

Wawa is reportedly is considering adding a maximum of 40 stores. Each site is around two acres, typically in heavy traffic areas. The stores itself are several thousand square feet in size.

Those stores will bring 1,000 jobs to the area. Each store is roughly $5 million to $6 million each. Construction to begin in the spring of 2017. Stores are set to open late 2017 and 10 more will be coming in 2018.
