Ruben Ebron's mother to call for removal of state attorney at protest Monday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The mother of Ruben Ebron plans to call for removal of the state attorney at a protest on Monday.

Wanda Ebron said she wants State Attorney Angela Corey removed from office because she believes Lonna Lauramore Barton is not being held accountable for the death of her son Lonzie Barton.

Wanda’s son Ruben Ebron is serving 20 years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the child's death.

Lonna Lauramore Barton was sentenced to five years in prison after she pleaded guilty to child neglect and lying to police.

Lonzie went missing in July. After police unsuccessfully searched for him for months, Ruben Ebron led them to his remains.

He told police Lonzie drowned in a bath tub while he and Lauramore Barton were having sex.

The state attorney's office released a statement:

The tragic death of Lonzie Barton united and brought much of this community together.  His memory should not be used now to divide and rip it apart to further anyone's personal agenda. We cannot prosecute cases based on what we believe happened. We prosecute cases based on the facts that we can prove. The Defendant is being held accountable on the charges in which we can prove. There are pending matters regarding this case and we will not comment further at this time."
