JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are piecing together a shooting that left the manager of a freight liner operation center on the Westside dead.
It happened Monday morning at the Old Dominion Center on Scotia Road. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office found 50-year old Marty Coffey dead from bullet wounds.
Unmarked cars sat in front of the business as JSO officers and detectives walked around Old Dominion Freight Monday night. Police are looking for any and every clue that will help them, figure out who shot and killed Coffey.
JSO says Coffey arrived at work, got out of his car and was approached by someone who shot him. JSO didn’t say how many times Coffey was shot, but people in the area told Action News Jax they heard about four or five shots Monday morning.
Action News Jax obtained cell phone video taken minutes after the shooting, showing Coffey’s body still on the ground near a car. Our helicopter, Sky Action News Jax, also showed officers picking up multiple shell casings off the ground.
“Right now, they’re going to work backwards,” said Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson.
Jefferson said police are working backwards in order to move forward in this investigation.
“They’re going to have to contact witnesses, friends, family, employees,” said Jefferson.

“The surveillance cameras at that time were at the front parking lot, the back yard and the side yard as well,” said Jefferson.
Jefferson used to provide security for Old Dominion Freight. He also monitored the company’s surveillance system.
“If they still have those same surveillance cameras in place, maybe a possibility that they captured an image of the suspect,” said Jefferson.
For now, police are hoping to get leads from one major clue; that’s a small white car that drove off after the shooting.
“If they have a description of the vehicle, then if they dig deeper, then they’ll get a race and sex of the perpetrator,” said Jefferson.
