FHP said the driver of the GMC pickup, 75-year-old Fred Gray of Manning, S.C., was taken to Orange Park Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was taken to Flagler Hospital for treatment of serious burns.

FHP said the 31-year-old driver of the semi-truck was traveling in the right lane and was moving to the center lane as it approached the truck. However, Gray drove off the shoulder and crossed all southbound lanes of traffic and directly in front of the semi-truck, FHP said.

The crash caused the semi-truck to hit the guardrail, where it began to leak fuel and catch on fire, troopers said.

The crash blocked two southbound left lanes for several hours.
