JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are searching for people who pulled up behind a driver on a highway and opened fire.
A man said someone shot at his vehicle four times with a high-powered BB gun while he was traveling to St. Augustine for work.
The driver, who didn’t want to be named, said the incident happened around midnight on Interstate 295 south heading toward Interstate 95.
The driver stopped at the Gate Gas station on Old St. Augustine Road to call police.
The incident cracked his windows and appears to have left a bullet-like indentation on his door.
“I wasn't expecting anything to happen,” the victim said.
The victim said he thought he had the road to himself when a car came speeding up behind him.
“I heard two pops and I realized something was wrong,” the victim said. “I looked to my right and I saw this laser on my face like right near my eyes so I slammed on the brakes. It definitely would've went through the window and might've hit me in the face.”
The victim said the other driver sped off onto Interstate 95.
“I was thinking to myself does someone want me dead?” the victim said. “I thought I might've died in that moment. I could've been blind last night. I could've been in a crash. I was just afraid for my life.”
The victim wasn’t able to get a good look at the people in the vehicle, but believe they might have been driving a dark Infiniti Sedan. He is encouraging drivers to call police if they see suspicious vehicles.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500.
