ST. MARYS, Ga. — A local woman was indicted for having sex with a 14-year-old boy.
St. Marys Police Department said 27-year-old Kristeen Harden admitted to having sex with the teen inside her home.
Action News Jax reporter Samantha Manning spoke briefly with Harden, who’s now out on bond facing serious charges.
Police say Harden met the teen while he was visiting his mom in St. Marys. The teen lives in Brevard County with his father and it was his dad who called police after he became suspicious that his son had a sexual relationship with Harden, who is a parent herself.
A grand jury indicted Harden for statutory rape. Manning tried asking Harden about the charge against her.
Manning: “We wanted to ask you about the indictment.”
Harden: “There’s a lot I’d like to say, but I would like lawyers and everything.”
Manning: “Is there anything you want to say to the teen’s family?”
But she wouldn’t say any more. Police say the dad discovered text messages and conversations on social media between his son and Harden.
“They had chatted on Facebook back and forth,” said SMPD Lt. Johnny Guy.
St Marys police say once confronted by investigators, Harden admitted to having sex with the teen in her home at least once.
“According to her statement, she takes responsibility for it what she did because she was the adult,” Lt. Guy said.
We spoke with the teen victim’s mom but she did not want to comment. Harden does not have any other arrests with the St. Mary’s police department. She could be facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
