A Glynn County woman has died after being hit by a falling palm tree.
The coroner's office says 67-year-old Zaidee Carruth was killed while walking her dog near her apartment in St. Simons Island.
They say a rotten palm tree snapped in high winds around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said windy conditions contributed to the tree falling.
Friends tell Action News Jax that Carruth graduated from Tift High School, was the daughter of a Methodist minister and belonged to the Golden Isles Shag Club, a dancing club.
Carruth's friends say she was effervescent and that she loved dancing more than anything else.
