COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A driver of a tractor-trailer that was transporting vehicles was killed Wednesday when he was run over by his own truck at a rest area outside Lake City.
The accident happened Wednesday shortly after 8 p.m. at the Interstate 75 rest stop at the 412 mile marker, 12 miles south of Lake City.
The driver reportedly parked in the rest area and went underneath the truck to adjust the brakes on his 2006 Peterbilt truck. One of the brakes reportedly had lost air pressure and locked up.
When the driver was under the truck, it broke free and rolled back on top of him, killing him, authorities said.
The driver was identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as 45-year-old Deivys Viamonte of Hialeah, Florida.
