Updates: Florida voters say yes to medical marijuana, no to solar amendment

Amendment 2 for medical marijuana has passed in the state of Florida.

The amendment legalizes the use of medical marijuana for people with PTSD, epilepsy and other serious conditions.

Florida is now the 26th state along with the District of Columbia to legalize the marijuana plant for medical use.

Two years ago, the medical marijuana initiative received 58 percent of the vote, just shy of the required 60 percent for approval.

More than 70 percent of Florida voters said yes to the amendment this time around.

Medical marijuana had the support of 74 percent of voters in Duval County.

Amendment 1 for solar energy was rejected. Almost 60 percent of Duval voters supported the solar amendment.

Amendment 3, a tax exemption for disabled first responders, and amendment 5, a property tax exemption for senior citizens, passed. More than 80 percent of Duval County voters supported both amendments.

County referendum No. 1, which allows slot machines in Duval County, passed with more than 54 percent support from voters.
