JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Joshua Curry said he arrived at work Wednesday at 7:10 a.m., 10 minutes late and just after one of his coworkers was shot and killed.
Curry said he parked and heard his co-workers at B& L Landscape Co. screaming "active shooter, active shooter!"
Curry told Action News Jax that he came face to face with a man with whom he has worked with for years and who his co-workers said shot and killed another coworker.
"Disbelief, a lot of shock, and sadness and anger like you've never seen before in a group of people,” said Curry.
Curry said he grabbed his gun, which he legally keeps in his car, and held the suspected shooter at gunpoint until he heard police sirens. He said his other co-workers told him what had happened.
Curry said the suspected shooter had problems with everyone with whom he worked and recently had been picking random fights with his co-workers.
"He was weird, and he had problems with everybody,” Curry said. “Remember how I told you (the workplace) was a family? That was the one that didn't quite fall into the family.”
Curry said he can't understand why he would take a life.
Curry said the shooter shot his co-worker twice, the first time in the back. He said he remembers seeing the victim, a co-worker he has known for years, lying in the place he was gunned down.
"I would tell him he's a coward and I hope he understands who he took away from the world. It's never the bad ones. It's never the bad ones, it's always the good people," said Curry.
Police have yet to name the victim or the suspect in the ongoing investigation.
