Witness to Jacksonville bar shooting: 'It sounded like automatic weapons ... it was rapid gunfire'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are looking for the gunmen who opened fire Thursday night in the parking lot of a crowded sports bar in New Town. The shooting killed one woman and left another in critical condition.

Friends confirmed to Action News Jax that the victim killed at Kelly's Place on Kings Road was Jen Nelson.
Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn spoke exclusively with an eyewitness who said he was on his way to the police.

Report: Jacksonville doctor raided by FBI was involved in fatal love triangle

The eyewitness did not want to be identified for fear of retaliation. He told Action News Jax he was at Kelly's Place around 9:30 p.m. when he saw the suspects pull up in a car, possibly a Dodge Charger, get out and shoot at the victim's car.

The witness said the victims were inside the champagne-colored Honda, which was riddled with bullets.

The witness said the suspects got back in their car and drove off.

A man who lives three blocks away said he heard the gunshots.

“It sounded like automatic weapons because it was rapid gunfire,” said Charles Brown. “I mean it was just loud. Me and my wife were sitting there looking at the TV, and I had the TV up quite loud, and you still could hear it.”

The witness said he got a decent look at the suspects in the shooting. He said they appear to be in their mid-30s, normal size and build, but they each had dreadlocks or braids in their hair. One of the men had a tear drop tattoo under his right eye, according to the witness.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released any suspect information. Action News Jax is working to confirm the details with police.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
