Deputies are searching for a man who attacked a woman as she was leaving a bathroom at a St. Johns County park on Tuesday.
The woman who was attacked outside the restroom in Julington Creek Plantation park told Action News Jax that a gash on her head was almost deep enough to reach her skull.
Action News Jax spoke with a woman who witnessed the attack and ran to help the woman.

“She was bleeding. She had blood all over her face all over her arms," the witness told Action News Jax.
She said she was walking her dog when she heard the woman scream.
She told deputies she saw a man hitting the woman while she was on the ground.
“We ran across the field, and I thought he was going to come towards me," she said. "I think he did see me."

Doug Kowieski, a K-9 handler with St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, said the witness may have saved the woman's life.
"That guy got spooked off because she was there, so citizens helping citizens," Kowieski said.
The witness told deputies the man was wearing a black hoodie and light-colored shorts. The witness could not describe the man's face.
The victim was taken to Baptist South for treatment.
