Veterans try to save woman after car drives off ramp in San Marco

Three veterans tried to save a woman after she drove off a ramp and crashed into a construction zone below on Saturday.

Veteran Joshua Goodwyne said he watched the whole thing happen in his rearview mirror.

The driver drifted to the right and overcorrected before driving off the ramp and onto Kings Avenue, he said.

He and his two friends called 911 and drove down to the construction site where she landed.

David Swanson said when they got to her, the car doors were so bent that they had to pry them open to get to her.

"Before we pulled her out of the vehicle, I asked him to make sure he checked for a pulse," Goodwyne said. "There wasn't anything."

"We had to literally pry," Swanson said. "We just pulled her out (and) started administrating chest compressions the best that I could."

Goodwyne said the crash will be hard to shake from their memory.

Florida Highway Patrol said the cause of the crash has not yet been determined and they do not know if alcohol was involved.
