Boy who grew out hair for cancer patients gets heartbreaking diagnosis of his own

A 7-year-old boy who grew his hair long so he could donate it to cancer patients has received some heartbreaking news.

According to CNN, Vinny Desautels of Roseville, California, recently went through medical tests after his right eye and hip started swelling. Doctors discovered tumors that may be Ewing's sarcoma in both areas.

"We know it's cancer, stage 4, because it spread in two different locations and it's aggressive," Vinny's father, Jason Desautels, told CNN. "Now we're trying to figure out what we're dealing with so we can come up with a plan."

When Vinny was 5, he decided to grow out his hair to help kids battling the disease.

"I want to help people so they don't have to go to the doctor to fight cancer," Vinny told KABC.

Even though he was teased about his hair, he kept growing it for two years, according to KABC.

"During that time, he was mistaken for a girl many times, but he took it like a champ and was like, 'No, I'm a boy,'" Desautels said.

The family has started a GoFundMe page to support Vinny. Learn more here.
